<p><strong>About the Role</strong><br>Dodo Payments is a merchant of record. Questions about what we can support, for whom, in which<br>markets and on what terms come up constantly: in sales calls, in partnership conversations, and from<br>merchants writing in to support. Today they all route to one person, which slows deals down.<br>This role is the compliance seat in those rooms, and the compliance counterpart to the sales team.<br>Part of the job is finding the workable path for a customer we want. The other part, equally important,<br>is holding the line when what is being promised is not something we can deliver.</p>
<p><br><strong>Responsibilities</strong><br>• Be the compliance voice in commercial rooms. Join sales and partnership calls where tax,<br>compliance, acceptance or onboarding questions come up, and make sure what gets<br>promised is something we can actually deliver<br>• Work out the compliant path for larger and more complex accounts, in consultation with the<br>Risk function where a case turns on risk assessment, and propose the route for sign-off by the<br>Head of Compliance &amp; Legal<br>• Support the CX team on merchant queries touching compliance, acceptance or onboarding,<br>so they get answered rather than escalated by default<br>• Support onboarding for complex and higher-risk merchant segments, from initial assessment<br>through to the documentation and conditions required<br>• Translate the internal framework, meaning the MAP, our acceptance policy, risk criteria and<br>merchant of record obligations, into answers a merchant or a salesperson can act on<br>• Build repeatable onboarding frameworks for complex and higher-risk segments, and route the<br>genuinely novel question for a decision rather than improvising an answer<br><br><strong>Requirements</strong><br>• 2–4 years in policy, regulatory affairs, compliance, or a commercial role with substantial<br>regulatory content. Policy think tanks, regulatory consulting, industry associations and<br>in-house teams are all relevant backgrounds<br>• The ability to learn a framework properly and then explain it simply, live, to people who are not<br>specialists and need a usable answer<br>• Comfortable operating in ambiguous, deal-facing situations where the compliance path is not<br>already defined<br>• A commercial instinct paired with a spine. You should care whether the deal moves, and<br>be willing to say no to a room that wants to hear yes<br>• Sound judgement about the limits of your own authority: confident answering what you know,<br>disciplined about escalating what you do not<br>• No legal qualification required. Prior exposure to payments, fintech, or regulated or restricted<br>categories is a strong plus<br><br><strong>Please Note</strong><br>• This is not a back-office or documentation-only role. It is deal-facing and customer-facing, and<br>much of it happens live in conversation rather than in documents<br>• You will not be setting policy on day one. Acceptance positions and risk appetite are set<br>by the Head of Compliance &amp; Legal. Scope to shape the policies themselves opens up over<br>time, on the strength of the judgement you demonstrate<br>• This is not merchant risk operations, AML alert review or transaction monitoring<br>What Good Looks Like (3–6 months)<br>• New categories and customer types unlocked for onboarding, with the case for each worked<br>up and documented<br>• Larger and more complex accounts onboarded, with the compliance path defined before the<br>deal closes rather than after<br>• Compliance and tax questions answered by you on the call, without escalation on anything<br>routine<br>• Higher-dispute merchants have a consistent, repeatable onboarding path, and CX can handle<br>the recurring queries directly<br><br><strong>What You Will Get Out of It</strong><br>• A commercial seat inside a compliance function, at a merchant of record operating across<br>multiple jurisdictions<br>• Direct customer and partner exposure from day one<br>• Practical grounding in cross-border payments regulation, card scheme rules and merchant of<br>record structures, learned on live cases<br>• A route into shaping the policies themselves.
