ACT Grants

We at ACT Grants are looking for a Chief of Staff to partner closely with ACT’s leadership team to drive high-impact strategic initiatives, build core organisational capabilities, and explore new frontiers for impact. This role is designed to significantly extend leadership bandwidth and help ACT scale its venture-style approach to philanthropy with greater speed, rigor, and ambition. At the intersection of strategy, investing, and execution, you will play a pivotal role in shaping ACT’s next phase of growth.

Organisation Overview
ACT backs bold entrepreneurs building category-defining, population-scale impact organisations. We provide flexible, risk-tolerant grant capital to founders aiming to create “impact unicorns”, ventures that leverage technology and other innovation to solve large, systemic challenges across sectors such as education, health, and environment.
Over the past five years, ACT has developed a distinctive venture philanthropy model. We support organisations early, provide the risk capital needed to experiment and innovate, and double down on those demonstrating strong signals of scale. Alongside capital, we work closely with founders to help them navigate key inflection points and build durable, high-impact institutions.&nbsp;
ACT has supported 60+ technology-led organisations such as Rocket Learning, Khushi Baby, Adalat AI, Indra Water and Forus Health. By addressing the critical “missing middle” in funding, we seek to enable founders to take bold bets, iterate rapidly, and build solutions that can drive lasting impact at scale. 
Role Description
This is a high-ownership, generalist role offering a front-row seat to building and scaling a venture philanthropy platform. The selected candidate will:

Strengthen ACT’s operating systems: Partner closely with our leadership team to align our processes such as sourcing, due diligence and MEL more closely with our vision of supporting deep and population-scale impact.
</li>
<li>
Lead special projects from 0→1: Independently own and deliver on ambiguous, high-priority initiatives jointly identified with the leadership team, ranging from building new organisational capabilities to exploring new capital structures.
</li>
<li>
Evaluate new sectors and opportunities: Build perspectives on emerging and experimental areas; lead diligence on organisations and opportunities beyond ACT’s current focus, including market mapping, founder evaluation, and impact assessment.
</li>
<li>
Design and implement impact measurement frameworks: Play a key role in building ACT’s next-generation impact measurement approach, bringing analytical rigor to how outcomes are defined, tracked, and communicated.
</li>
<li>
Enhance investment processes and rigor: Work with the Managing Partner to strengthen evaluation frameworks, decision-making processes, and internal standards, ensuring consistency, depth, and excellence across the portfolio.
</li>
<li>
Support and scale portfolio value creation: Collaborate with ACT’s platform team to design and pilot initiatives that address founders’ most critical challenges (e.g., tech and fundraising), and help scale successful support models across the portfolio.

Required Qualifications
We are looking for a high-agency, analytically strong individual with an entrepreneurial mindset, who thrives in ambiguity and is excited to work closely with leadership to scale a mission-driven organisation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following attributes:

Relevant experience: 2–4 years at a top-tier management consulting firm, venture capital fund, or high-growth, venture-backed startup.
</li>
<li>
Structured thinking and ownership: Ability to translate strategic direction into clear action plans while operating independently and leveraging leadership effectively.
</li>
<li>
AI Fluency: Comfort with integrating AI tools into day-to-day workflows and prototyping simple AI-driven solutions. Advanced technical depth is not expected.
</li>
<li>
Project management: Strong ability to manage multiple workstreams, prioritize effectively, and communicate crisp updates to senior stakeholders.
</li>
<li>
Analytical agility: Comfortable navigating new sectors, quickly building context, and synthesizing insights to support decision-making.
</li>
<li>
Entrepreneurial mindset: Ability to conceptualize, pilot, and iterate on new initiatives in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
</li>
<li>
Stakeholder management: Effective collaborator across teams and seniority levels, including internal teams, founders, and external partners.
</li>
<li>
Resilience and adaptability: High ownership and persistence, with the ability to operate and learn quickly in a dynamic, startup-like environment.
</li>

Location: We operate a hybrid model with teams based in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Candidates should be based in one of these cities and available to work from the office 1–2 days per week.
Reporting: Reports to the Managing Partner, with close day-to-day collaboration with the broader leadership team.
